Dumb and Dumber Sequel May Still Be A Possibility

Last we heard about Dumb and Dumber 2 was that it was off.

Star Jim Carrey had said enough was enough and had dropped out of the film.  After years of questions about a possible sequel and finally getting Jim Carrey, Jeff Daniels and the Farrelly Brothers onboard the project, at the end of the day Carrey walked.

At the time, ET Online reported:

According to sources, Carrey grew increasingly frustrated by New Line and Warner Brothers, who he felt showed a lack of enthusiasm regarding the project.

Carrey told ET (as previously posted on ATC):

I would have thought Dumb and Dumber To was a no-brainer, after all it’s implied in the title.

It appeared the project was dead.  But, like the Anchorman sequel that could, it appears too soon to pronounce the film dead.  Jeff Daniels recently spoke at the Television Critics Association panel for his HBO show The Newsroom and confirmed that the fat lady had not sung yet and that there was still hope.

Oh sure, even more so now. Jim wants to do it. I want to do it. The Farrellys want to do it. They want to rewrite the script a little bit and they aren’t trying to jam it in before I have to go back and do ‘Newsroom’ in November. So they’re going, ‘Why don’t we just do it right? Let’s get everybody organized to go next May or June.’ If everything works out on the business side, that’s what we’ll do but I think there’s more hope than ever.  I understood why [Jim walked], because this has been a year and a half of a whole bunch of are we, aren’t we, what’s going on, yeah the script’s funny, no it’s not, now we have to have notes. So I think Jim just got frustrated and I completely got it. I was frustrated too. We thought it was in pretty good shape. The studio and others wanted some more work done it. The Farrellys wanted more work done on it so they got working on it and I think last week they decided to push the shooting of it to next year, possibly because I wasn’t going to move ‘The Newsroom.”

I was actually watching The Newsroom last night, a really good show, thinking, “I’m not sure if he’s still that guy.  Does he still have it in him be that character?”  Daniels is doing some of his best work in his new show, and hopefully the studio and the principals can come together to make it work, because it will be really interesting to catch up with Harry and Lloyd after all these years.  If I’m honest, I’m surprised they’re still alive.

Expect it to resemble Dumb and Dumberer: When Harry Met Lloyd in absolutely no form.
