Christian Bale Says He Will Not Play Batman in Justice League Film

In March of this year, a rumor surfaced that Christopher Nolan was very hands on at DC and thus bringing back Christian Bale as Batman for Justice League film.

The internet went crazy.

Four months later, Batman himself has debunked the rumor.

In an interview with Entertainment Weekly, Christian Bale said flat out he won’t be Bruce Wayne or Batman or the Caped Crusader in the Justice League  film whenever it does come.

With the success of Man of Steel an JL film is inevitable, but who plays Batman now? Hit the jump for more quotes from Bale.

Bale to EW:

We were incredibly fortunate to get to make three [Batman films]. That’s enough. Let’s not get greedy. Chris [Nolan] always said he wanted to make it one film at a time. And we ended up sitting there looking at each other, saying ‘We’re about to make the third.’ We never really knew if we were going to get to be there, but if that was how it was going to be, this was where it should end as well.

Bale goes on to explain that he’s never even been involved in official talks about Justice League:

I have no information, no knowledge about anything. I’ve literally not had a conversation with a living soul. I understand that they may be making a Justice League movie, that’s it.

Lastly, Bale says he is happy to pass his cape and cowl onto a new actor:

It’s a torch that should be handed from one actor to another. So I enjoy looking forward to what somebody else will come up with.

While this isn’t much of a surprise, it is disappointing. Who could possibly fill Bale’s shoes?

What do you think of what Bale had to say, and who is your choice to don the black cape this time around?

Doubtful. He’s not a big enough name, plus he did / is doing Dredd

Joseph Gordon Levitt, obviously. He inherited the Batman persona at the end of the last film.

JGL was given the keys at the end of TDKR, but that was Nolan’s casting, I’m not sure the studio felt he was picking the next Batman. And JGL is, and I say this respectfully of an actor I really like, diminutive. He’s going to look like Batman’s little brother next to Henry Cavill and the kind of tall, stacked guys they get to play the rest of the JL. I think that’s why the rumors about Armie Hammer started floating up, that dude is 6’5 and built. You want your Batman to look like physical perfection. Bale was pretty small for the role too, but he wasn’t being compared to other super heroes.
